Course objectives The objectives of this course are to improve confidence and proficiency in English communication for future careers in business and science. This second course will focus specifically on practical speaking and listening skills using material from a range of professional contexts such as busines meetings, shipping and deliveries, entertaining clients, and international travel. This course will also introduce specific strategies and self-study techniques to further improve TOEIC test scores.
Course methodology Active student participation will be expected in a range of pair-work and small group activities. Classes will also include weekly vocabulary peer-testing, short extensive reading sessions, and a small number of short TOEIC test simulations. There is also a significant self-study(homework) component to this course with students being expected to complete at least 10hours/lesson outside class.

Eligibility for this course This is a compulsary course for all first year Frontier and Expert Course students. It can also be taken as an optional course by International or Doctor Course students.
Consultation times Thursday 3:10-5pm C102 (or make an appointment by email).
Grades/Evaluation The grade for this course will be based on weekly word-quizzes and self-study tasks (20%), two mini-tests (40%), a post-course TOEIC-IP test score (30%), and self-study reading (10%).
