教育目的/授業目標 English oral presentation is firmly established in the twenty-first century as a primary form of professional and scientific communication. This subject aims to develop students' proficiency in this mode of English communication through the development and presentation of their own research. Additionally, this subject scaffolds students' abilities to present their research to a wider audience by examining successful (and unsuccessful) presentations from a broad range of professional fields.
指導方針 To provide students with the opportunity to develop confidence and familiarity with English as a common form of communication, this subject is taught all in English. Students examine oral presentation skills from three angles: the physical message, including posture, voice and body language; the visual message, including slide design and effective use; and the story message, including the basic format and functions of an introduction, body, and conclusion, along with useful English phrases.

Introducing three perspectives: the physical message, including posture, voice, and body language; the story message, including the basic format and functions of the introduction, body, and conclusion, along with useful English phrases; and the visual message, including slide design and effective use.
2 11/14 [3] Physical message Students look at the importance of posture, body language, eye contact, and the voice in communication, and practice ways to use these physical attributes effectively in a presentation.
3 11/21 [3] Introduction Students look at the functions of the introduction, then identify and practice basic formats and techniques for introducing a presentation.
4 11/28 [3] Body Organizing and presenting your main points: students examine and practice ways of presenting and supporting the main points of a presentation, and learned some useful transition techniques for moving from one point to another.
5 12/5 [3] Conclusion Students look at the functions of the conclusion, then identify and practice basic formats and techniques for concluding a presentation.
6 12/12 [3] Visuals Students study the different types of visuals that can be used in a presentation, and techniques for explaining visuals. They also identify problems and solutions for effective use of visuals in a presentation.
7 12/19 [3] Practice Students practice their presentations in small groups and receive feedback.
8 12/26 [3] Presentation skills symposium Students present their own research.

成績評価の方法と基準 Grading (S, A, B, C, or D) will be determined by weekly review points (20%) and evaluation of the student presentations (teacher evaluation 40%, peer evaluation 20%, and self-evaluation 20%).
