授業科目概要

教育目的/授業目標 Through sources in the media and classroom discussions, students of different countries find that they share some of their highest values. This contributes to a higher appreciation of other cultures and is eventually a key to a more peaceful world.
指導方針 In each class an article from the media is presented to the students, who express their thinking on the topic in writing and in short oral presentations, leading to small group and full class discussions. Short tests are given on the content and vocabulary of the text. Each student also prepares to give a presentations in the final class on professioal ethics.

3 1/7 [3] Marriage and commitment The difficulty that some young people have recently in committing themselves to a life-long marriage is considered.
4 1/21 [3] Family values The case of one family and the values of the mother is considered.
5 1/28 [3] Education With a look at some research, the pros and cons of coeducation are considered.
6 2/4 [3] Leadership Leadership is defined basically as requiring six character strengths.
7 2/18 [3] Manners and culture American table manners are presented as a basis for comparisons with other cultures.
8 2/25 [3] Final presentations Each student delivers a presentation on professional ethics, with examples.

履修条件 The course is offered for students of any year of the Doctoral Programs. Students from all countries are very welcome. The language of the course is English, but it is not required that you be fluent in English.
